Rodeo

That about sums up where I am right now, mentally, spiritually and pizzally.

I'm super old update:

I graduated from high school ten years ago this week. Ten years is a really, really long time. If I could time machine back to that day and see myself, I would say:

Keep up the good work?

I don't know. I should probably have something profound here.
-How about, You aren't going to marry any of 'em, so dump 'em when you think of it. It's easier that way and then your R2D2 poster won't get destroyed and you won't have to punch that guy with the earrings and bad tattoos.
-Don't park your car in front of your apartment on Cricket Ave., that car was bitching and some asshole is going to steal it.
-You are totally right, naps are always a waste of time. I regret nothing but the naps.
-You still don't like Chinese food.
-Would it kill you to exercise once in a while you lazy ass?
-All those Phillies games you turn down tickets to turn out awesome. I'm not going to spoil the surprise, but it rhymes with ho nitter.
-They see you rollin, they hatin
-He makes it, she doesn't, be strong for your mom.
-Avail doesn't come back for like seven years, don't miss that show.
-Your beard is awesome. You single handedly bring beards back.
-Forgive. Always.
-Don't sweat the technique.
-Be excellent to each other.

I think that about sums it up. You're doing a good job kid, it gets better.

I also am old because:

-I got my new license yesterday. My picture looks exactly the same. This one expires in 2015, but I'll probably have to renew for my hover car license before then.
-One of my best friends turns 30 today. Ew.

Road-eo

That cover is so awesome. It's about time for another Summertime Funmertime playlist. Imma do that.

Hey! Happy Memorial Day. What'd you do? Hamburgers? I hope it was hamburgers. I had a ton of fireworks to shoot off and then I didn't even get to. My weekend was monopolized by a trip to our nation's capital.

One of my best friends from high school was getting married in DC. I headed down Saturday for the brotrothal. Remember? You were helping me pick an outfit. I couldn't decide and ended up taking three outfits with me. BE PREPARED.

The trip down was surprisingly easy after I had prepared myself for the nightmare that is X95 traffic I had heard so much about. A quick pit stop for some rollerblade-chat-inspired Diet Mountain Dew was the only real speedbump.

I think my favorite thing I saw as we pulled into DC was the "WE OPEN LATE" Wendy's sign I saw. You know, someone who actually knows how to read correctly might interpret that negatively. A block from there was a crooked, bent, stained sign which read "US CAPITOL ---->" which I also thought was hilarious. Thattaway. Ha.

Washington DC is bizarre. It's clean, no one there could beat me up, and the streets are wildly confusing and round. It's everything Philadelphia isn't. I give it a B-.

The actual wedding was a wedding. There was church (snore) cake (yum) and drunkenness (meh). White people remain terrible dancers. Especially the ones who are either acutely aware, or completely oblivious, to that fact. Overall it was a good wedding. I was rarely bored, the people who were there are some of my favorite people in the entire world, and I think the wedding was a good idea. Nothing like thinking a marriage will end in bitter divorce/murder suicide to ruin a wedding.

In my mind I thought a post wedding drive home was a much more reasonable plan than a hotel room. Hey, I won't be drunk, why not? Why not?! Because it will be three in the morning and you will have a terrifying and harrowing sleephorror drive home. You will have to hang your head out the window like a goddamned golden retriever just to stay awake through Maryland. Yeah, don't do that next time.

Anyway, keep it real homies. Hollerback for a dope playlist. Hope you enjoyed the travelblogue.

Rodeo

I was sick all weekend.

I slept for 17 of the 24 hours between 2 am Saturday and 2 am Sunday. I never do that. It was bizarre.

Yesterday was the "Christmas" party at Cheers. I think I have a hangover despite not drinking. But I won a prize? So there's that.

Also: football, annoying whore cat, Target, watermelon juice, cough medicine brain freeze, not enough degrees, tapas, all my electronics turning on me, else.

Via Black and wtf.

Gimme books to read.

Someone suggested Martin Amis. I started reading Time's Arrow because it was the only book of his the book store had, but it is kind of annoying to read. I mean, I think that is kind of the point?

So, on to Phillyist:

Phillyist is shutting down. Meaning, my Good Advice From a Bad Person columns are now homeless, at least as far as a home beyond here.

If anyone knows of a spot for them to be, that'd be awesome. Especially if that spot wanted to pay me to write them. I need to get my shit together and try to find something. I should write to Philly Weekly and the City Paper.

The Phillyist editors are making a new site. But a) I don't think they like me very much anymore after I was a pain in the ass to them and b) I don't think my particular brand of wit fits with their "theater reviews!" theme. They left me out of the "here's our new idea" email until I specifically asked for it.

Onward and upward.

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

I went to a wedding this weekend. I got dressed up and got my date dressed up and we matched kinda because I'm classy n shit.

It was a nice wedding, it was a retirement party for one of my all-time shenanigans cohorts. Oh, the times we had and should have gotten in trouble for. Goodnight sweet prince.

Sometimes I feel like this. Especially on airplanes and at baseball games.

It's so Christmas. That means presents. Usually I am quite good at getting presents for people. I love getting good presents for people. This year, total present block. None ideas. For anyone. It's bizarre and frustrating. I don't even know what I want for my self. DAMN THIS CHRISTMAS BLOCK!

My blog overlords at Phillyist have requested some sort of countdown to 2011 or top ten list for 2010 or something. I should do a few. Any suggestions?

So what are you all asking for from Santa?

Christmas wishlist item of the day:

BEAR CHAIR!

Rodeo

Another weekend in the books.

Holy crap, it's November?

File under: Bad stuff my cat does (Oh yeah, I have a cat now)

My five pound cat somehow managed to pull down my trash can and toss the contents. I am not quite sure how. I am impressed. She continually does things that boggle my mind when I am not looking. Hey tiny cat, how did you carry an entire bag of candy corn clear across the apartment and into your nest of dirty clothes and trash you have made in my bedroom? Hey tiny cat, what the hell was that super loud noise?

In an exciting turn of events, my cat looks exactly like this cat:

Which is pretty exciting. That's obviously a good cat to look like.

Apples to Apples always makes me laugh, sometimes by myself. I somehow managed to not win on Anne Frank OR Rosie O'Donnell though, tough crowd.

I got lectured on not recycling. I want to move. I need someone to pay me for writing. Maybe I'll find a rich guy and write funny messages for him. That sounds too romantic.

Halloweekend Rodeo Roundup

This was the best part of Halloween. The sound quality on this video is terrible for some reason. It sounded great there. The show was perfect, everyone there, despite being 25-45, was 16 for the night. Including the band. Ted's impression of Danzig was so spot-on. I have never seen so many 35 year old stage divers.

Other than that, I was a lumberjack for Halloween, as I like costumes that require little effort and deliver maximum punch. It went over well.

Some stupid baseball teams played each other or something, I don't remember.

Send me some Good Advice From a Bad Persons for tomorrow, please. C'mon I know you want to be immortalized on that super popular Phillyist website.

Oh and then last night a bunch of people voted and talked about it on facebook. Way to go voters! I'm so proud you did something that takes four minutes. It's like a starbucks trip, except free and there was probably a shorter line.

Got a couple playlists in the works too.

If you're gonna scream, scream with me.

Halloween is coming up, maybe I'll actually wear a costume this year instead of just wearing my sweater that vaguely resembles Freddy Krueger's. I was going to be a Chilean Miner, so I wouldn't have to shave my beard, but I bet that is going to be super played by then.

Chomp chomp chomp chomp. That's what the pipe noise always sounded like to me.

Public Advisory: NO ONE BE ANYONE FROM JERSEY SHORE (Macaroni Rascals) FOR HALLOWEEN. Thank you.

Here is an article Gavin McInnes surely volunteered. I think it's crap. For one, who is his audience? No one calls themselves a hipster. Me-someone who makes fun of hipsters? Um, You Chose...Poorly! Also, bonus me-giving-him-shit in the comments on the article. But hey, maybe you'll like it.

This continues to make me laugh. I have no idea why. I am truley sorry for your lots.

My friend keeps me updated on the internet.

The Phillies. ALL DAY EVERYDAY. Carlos Ruiz: My nickname is Chooch.

Ok homework:

Halloween costume ideas, GAFABPs (really, do this. It will be on like a super popular website, and then maybe I'll be famous and you can have that feather for your cap), playlist requests

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

Rainbows mean something now, Bible cartoon drawer.

Blah blah rain flood joke haha amirite? ha!

No but really, that was stupid.

Also the Phillies finished the regular season with the best record in baseball. That's pretty dope. You can imagine how happy this made me, considering I love the Phillies more than any person I've ever met in my life.

I made the important life decision that the new Guitar Hero was a good way to spend 100$ and most of my free time for the foreseeable. I think it was a wise decision.

Lookin good, 'be.

At one point, I was a pretty heroic video-game guitar player. I realized that I was good enough that onlookers might think "oh hey, he's pretty good at that, neat." Had I continued down my hero's-quest-journey, I would have gotten to the point that people would think "oh hey, he's really good at that game. Ew." We'll see how this goes.

FYI, my August water bill was twice as much as normal. You know, #incaseyouwerewondering.

As always, keep the playlists and GAFABPs rolling. I know I've been slacking on here, but I think I can blame you for that. Overheard this weekend, by me, to me (wait, that doesn't count as overheard, does it?): "So you're the Bad Person?"

Boo ya! Infamy is mine!

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

A weekend happened.

The Phillies left first, and now they're back again, and I am super stoked. I love the Phillies more than 99% of things in this world.

Also, the Eagles had their first game. It was a dog fight (pun half intended) and everyone got hurt/brain exploded. There was something a little magical about seeing an Eagles quarterback scramble and improvise and MAKE SHIT HAPPEN that reminded me of a certain QB EAGLES

Unlike EVERYONE ELSE EVER, I will spare you the travails and triumphs of my fantasy teams because NO ONE CARES AT ALL.

This weather couldn't be more perfect. Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. I think it says a lot about people that they get so excited about the warmth in the spring, but don't appreciate the lingering warmth of fall. Fall is the best.

Can't Wait!

Hey, give me some ideas for a playlist, I feel like I haven't made one in a while, and I'd like to.

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

It was a bad weekend for nerds' eyeballs, but a good weekend for me.

Best part of the weekend was definitely seeing Cap'n Jazz - another band I have loved for a long time and never thought I would get to see live. It was 100 degrees outside and, with the throng of aging hipsters who obviously eat a ton of vegan cupcakes, it was oppressive inside. It was the sweatiest I've been in a long time, but I was far from the sweatiest of the day. That title probably goes to the shirtless dude who kept squeezing between my friend and I like we were those big rollers at a car wash. Yuck.

The show itself was incredible, they sounded great. Their recorded work has a certain low fi, frenetic, verging-on-sloppy feel to it. The live show made me realize that they are talented musicians whose chaotic sound is carefully cultivated and intentional. They recreated their songs loyally and impressively. I guess if you have jazz in your name, you better bring it. I have never seen them before, so realizing the singer is a cross between Mitch Hedberg and Peter Sarsgaard was a bit of a surprise.

That's a video from the show - which was less than 48 hours ago. I love the internet!

Here's a quick list of bands I can think of off the top of my head that take their name from a Cap'n Jazz song:

We are Scientists!
Soria
Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Rocky Rococo
Troubled by Insects

Other than that, this weekend had some awesome Phillies games, a crazy thunder storm and a hectic Sunday. I'm so glad my friends thought baby pools and Depends were a good way to celebrate turning 30. I brought them a case of Hurricanes. That case was distressingly inexpensive. It was less than twenty dollars for 480 oz. of disgusting booze. Things shouldn't be that cheap, I would have felt much better about the whole thing if it had cost ten more dollars.

The Spice Must Flow

What a strange weekend. 80 year old birthday party, the past, Dune, hot dogs with cheese in them, a frog, math and a lot of reading.

I like your style.

Most 80 year olds I see make me not want to be 80. They are frail, smell weird and talk too loud. But, seeing four generations of my mom's family having fun and celebrating my grandfather changed my mind. First, he may be 80 and 5'2 but he can still beat me up. Second, it was a really good time. Maybe 80 ain't so bad. He's also great at talking about baseball. Like I will be.

I want a new tattoo so badly. It has been way too long since my last. I want something scientific. I want a science tattoo. Or a Dune tattoo. I'm the worst. Any Dune fans have any Dune tattoo ideas?

I am taking the next LSAT, but it isn't til October. I wonder if I'll study for it or just wing it like the rest of my entire life.

I realize that most of this crap isn't blog worthy, but you're reading it, so - joke's on you.

It was pretty awesome when I was allowed into a bar wearing my giant Crimson Ghost shirt and my friend in his foppish 30 dollar white urban outfitters deep V wasn't. SUCKER.

This is the notebook where I do my maths. It is strange doing math again, strangely cathartic. I missed it.

WRR/Apocalypse

NO!

Found this on thehighdefinite, and it made me want the world to end. Hey look! I might get my wish!

BP spill may cause "world killing event"

Wait, you called the POLICE because you lost your crops in FARMVILLE? Guhhhh. I thought we had natural selection? Screw you Darwin, you're good for nothing, obviously.

Loser wins!

Ever see those creepy guys with metal detectors? Well, their usual payday is a handful of nickels and a key to some unknown house/shed/bike lock. Well, this guy made up for that by finding one million dollars worth of Roman coins. Get ready for more creeps with metal detectors.

I didn't get to see Predators, but I wanted to. That should be good for something. I want to see some predating!

Caring about soccer is over for another four years. No more 140 lb guys with bad haircuts jogging for three hours interspersed with pretending they are hurt. Sorry hip, rebellious sports fans! At least you have the Tour de France. The best part of the world cup was definitely the prescient octopus. PSYCHIC OCTOPUS! So awesome. Thanks Germany, never change.

When the Italian dude is giving you a wtf look, you know your flopping is egregious.

Best Photobomb ever.

Wait, psychic octopus, get back here. What's in store for me? Work I love? Work in order to do things I love in my spare time? What's ps4 going to be like? Is there going to be a Star Wars VII-IX? Shakespeare or William Bacon? Do psychic octopi know things about the past or just the future? What should I go back to school for? Will I like being a lawyer, or just being a law student? 42? Dr. Tony? Can I be a successful (gainfully employed) writer? C'mon Paul! I need to know these things!

If you're gonna scream, scream with me.

This>Everything else ever:

thanks, nick.

WRR

First up, a weather report:

ssssssssizzle

Second up, USA USA USA USA!

America! I responded to 75% of my text messages with one of those two messages. I like fireworks and America. USA!

Awww USA USA!

I got to do something I never thought I'd get to do. I saw Faith No More. It was awesome. It was like 1995, except I was 12 then. So it was like 1995 but I am 27. And awesome. Also, I shot fireworks at my friends while they peed in the woods. They deserved it.

I didn't pay attention to any news this weekend because of USA USA USA and Faith No More. So I don't have any news links for you. You people probably don't even know how to read anyway. You're just here for the pictures.

Here's my impression of the news anyway: "Waaaaah! Waaah!" and "Oil! In the Ocean! BP sucks!" "Obama, Still President" "Sports!" "Fat Person is Fat" "Dead Person is Dead" and "Life, Future Suck"

Anyway, see you clowns tomorrow. Keep it real. GAFABP, dump em out.

Cough Cough Rodeo Round Up

That went by quick. I was sick for most of it. Coughcoughcoughcough.

Some stuff happened that doesn't need more than the following: more oil, more bzzzzzzzzzzzzsoccerbrrrrrzzzzzzzzzzzz, more blah blah.

Then some interesting stuff!

Quotes of the weekend
"Some people poop on their own heads!" - sage wisdom from my friend's father
"You're a freakin' pirate and I'm a freakin' Jesus!" - some sort of comeback from an extremely drunk Irishman in the bar last night. At one point he ordered "A Hoegarden, a shot of rumplemintz, a martini and a glass of red wine, please."

The Supreme Court did some Supreme Courtin'. "Hey Chicago, you aren't allowed to take stuff out of the constitution" was their take.

Pew pew!

Maybe I've watched too many (all) episodes of the X-Files, but I stumbled across this story of a decades old murder mystery and found it pretty fascinating. Gets really interesting about halfway down.

Whodunit!

Also, I'm not going to gloat and post stories of the iPhone 4's many many failures. But! I will post this comical picture:

Jobsy demonstrates how to get full reception on the new iPhone

In a story that interests me mostly because it got the Phillies three extra home games, smelly indignant rich kids protested some nebulous concept of "the man" this weekend. Sweet balaclava, bro. Also Toronto is getting all scardey about some protests that our sporting championship "celebrations" make look like a tea party. No, not that kind of Tea Party. Hey Canada, you'll be ok, I promise. Che Guevara is spinning in his grave.

God forbid we find out your identity you righteous class warrior! We might have to subpoena your library records because you're such a violent revolutionary! But now we can't because you have on that bandana. Oh, nevermind, we'll just ask that guy right behind you in the tank top and sandals who just went grocery shopping. He's taking up arms with you! Or the girl who is learning how to ride a bike. They look dangerous.

This is my first remote blogging. Get stoked. I had to relocate for some upgrades at the ALOUTRANCE HQ. You know, more blogger friendly windows are being installed. A minor inconvenience, and not enough to keep me from bringing you this half assed update.

Alright, stay clean.

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

First thing on my platter today is my weekly dose of what I like to call "horrible future." Once in a while something happens which makes me realize that my days of wearing spiked shoulder pads, driving around in a modified 1980's muscle car, killing my own food, wearing a shotgun (I originally typed that as shotfun - best typo ever) at all times and never cutting my beard again aren't as far away as I thought. The end is nigh. Yesterday I went down to the delicious little ice cream stand for a summery treat. As I was standing in the way-too-long line, I couldn't help but overhear all the poor parenting, vapid gossip and braindead blah blah going on around me. But! one thing rang out like a shot, and made me shudder. A young couple behind me, probably about my age, were waiting with their rambunctious and plucky two or three year old daughter. As is par for the course anymore, the girl was running around maniacally and crashing into my legs. About ten minutes after they should have, I heard her parents trying to gently reign her in - they said "Audrina, calm down honey, you'll get your ice cream soon" ... Audrina. The kid's name is Audrina. People are naming their children after characters on MTV faux-reality shows. Get your supplies, apocalypse can't be far now.

On to your links!

Glad they finally cracked this case.

Police have finally cracked this condiment case. This crazy old woman was dumping condiments in book drops. I guess she hates books? Or she's just insane? Either way, it took police a year to catch her. She must be wily.

Baseball Gaga

After flipping off Mets fans earlier this month, Lady Gaga traipsed her curiously talented tranny ass into the Yankee's locker room after a loss last week. I bet this was A-Rod's doing, his "fling" with Madonna last year proved his penchant for annoying pop starlets who look like dudes.

I told you the apocalypse was coming!

Beer pong is now a paying talent to have. Whoever wins the 25,000 dollar top prize can now begin paying back their parents for their hilariously misnamed education. I told you communications was a lucrative major!

I can't find a link, but I also heard about a Zappos customer service call last week. A woman and her dead-inside husband called the online shoe giant looking for a pair of boots. The woman, who will obviously die alone and unfulfilled, saw a pair of boots she absolutely had to have in a made-for-TV Lifetime movie. It took the customer service rep, who should be pitied and wept for, FIVE AND A HALF HOURS to track down the boots she was looking for. This woman had a five and half hour phone call looking for a specific pair of boots she saw in a Lifetime movie. Hey, sweet life dude.

After all of this, I really hope you heed my advice and prepare yourself for the coming Rapture. Enjoy!

WRR

Ahhh another weekend in the books. A hot, humid, gross weekend. Felt like I was back in 'Nam.

The World Cup started. I decided I was going to watch it this year. Those crafty soccer players immediately put me to the test by going out there and getting two goals in two games, which both ended in ties. I am tested. Watching 130 lb guys with bad haircuts pretending to be hurt as they flop and kick their way to a nil nil draw isn't making my World Cup mission easy. I will stick to it. Oh, and those horns. THOSE HORNS. USA USA USA.

Speaking of USA USA USA

Han, mah bukee, keelee caleya ky kah. Hay lapa no ya Solo!

What a story. I smell a Disney movie. Oh no wait, that's just pork rinds dipped in icing. I guess we all need goals? And then we need to eat those goals. And die. At least this story let me look up some phonetic Jabba the Hutt quotes! Excuse to use star wars tag!

cute! cruel? who cares, cute!

Is this cruel? I don't think so. Animals get groomed all the time. I see those stupid big poodles with their stupid haircuts and nobody says that is cruel. These guys just get dyes with their cuts. I'm in! Can I make my cats look like hammerhead sharks?

pew pew!

Is this awesome or stupid? Both! That site has some other great stuff for sale too.

Well that wraps up your links for the day. Get into it!

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

Kind of a new direction with the WRR, I think it's too personalizing and pedantic to tell you about my weekend. Let's keep that curtain drawn. On (completely contrary to) that note, here is an awesome trivial point about my day. A rock fell from a dump truck and broke my windshield today. Sweet.

TOO SEXY! SFW f'real though

So this girl gets fired for being "too sexy." Which, if true, is awful - and thanks to the hard hitting journalism of CBS, you can decide for yourself with their 37 picture spread of her work outfits and dorky poses. I got through about eight. Thanks CBS. NB if she was fired for being "too sexy" that's obviously crap. On the other hand, she probably only got the job for being sexy and is wildly under qualified. Which she basically admits to. I wanted more training I swear! I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way! Back in my day girls like this had a place in the office. As a secretary. Nice to look at but don't get too close to that glass ceiling. This little Titcarus flew too close to the sun it sounds like. Or the bank is a massive, evil corporation who fired this independent Beyonce of a woman. Either way.

iFail

iPhone network craps the bed in the new phone's keynote. Apple fanboys everywhere praise the iPhone's new patience building ap. Loved how he just showed off pictures after that. And people clapped. Because pictures looked slightly better on a phone that is four years newer. Culty. Dude in the audience brings a good burn with about 10 seconds left in the clip though.

this made my day.

spelling is hard :(

Well, I see their point. Spelling is hard. But on the other hand, you're a moron.

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

An extra weekend day. Always great. Except when you work on holidays. Then it's less great.

Friday
Friday's have gotten a little routine for me. Work late and take it easy. That has been the plan the last few weeks. Meh.

Saturday
Holidayday. Barbecue, meat, yard games, watching sports. Everything you'd expect from the Memorial Day weekend Saturday. It was fun. Nothing too wild, met some grownups I didn't know, which always makes me a little anxious - even if I had no reason to be. I didn't have to impress these grownups or anything, it still always makes me a little nervous though.

Sunday
Monster Dragon. Went to the track to watch some Harness racing on Sunday. It had been a while since I had been to a track. I always forget just how terrifying some of the people who go to watch horses race each other are. I always enjoy myself though - I love gambling. Went up and met the guy who announces the races, he was certainly "quirky".

Monday
Bonus blog day. Monday I worked, because I didn't have off like most people. But I did cut out early. I went to my sister's place to take care of her EIGHT cats. That's too many cats for non-crazy people to have. Half are temporary to be fair, but still. The kittens were adorable, as to be expected. Went to a barbecue after that, watched the Flyers lose. And now here we are on a rainy Tuesday that feels like a rainy Monday. And this whole thing is boring as sin. Sorry readers. I'll be back later with a little TART slash DOAH. Maybe.

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

Well, another weekend in the books. I was looking forward to this one because I had a pretty hellish week last week. Turned out pretty well.

Friday

Friday was pretty tame, worked way too much, got my car back, got dinner with my sister, played too many video games. Glad to have the car back, even if they forgot a piece I have to go back and pick up. It is kind of jarring to see my dash without that little glowing light of shame that was my check engine light for so many months.

Saturday

Saturday was a good day. We headed down to CBP to tailgate for the Phils-Red Sox game. Tailgating isn't usually my bag. Being the teetotaler I am, tailgating usually means "sit around and sweat" - but I had a good time. The game was a little disappointing as a Phils fan, but we had great seats and great company. Also, the Flyers winning earlier in the day made the loss a little easier to swallow. Finished up the day at a beach party at the local bar that was the expected shit show. Good times.

Sunday

Sunday was basically for one thing. The Lost finale. We had a mini lost party with dharma soda and food and cupcakes. Good looking party.

Nice spread, eh?

Ok - my thoughts on the finale. A good sci fi vehicle has two elements, excellent characters and excellent sci fi. This show had both, and the writers obviously felt the characters were the important part. I felt this was an ending for girls and not boys. They left the island and her mysteries intact and brought together the characters for their goodbye. That's their prerogative and I can respect that. As far as a finale based on characters and relationships I thought it was a good one. I personally would have enjoyed more sci fi, but hey, I'm a nerd.

My bone to pick with the last episode is also a nerdy one. Great sci fi is basically regurgitated classics. Classic stories told on space ships or mysterious islands. Replace gladiator swords with light sabers and medusa with smoke monster, bam. Recipe for success in my book. In the classics, the better a character, the better his death. If you're awesome you die an awesome death, at the hands of a worthy foe. The reason the Iliad is a tragedy is because Achilles dies at the hands of a bitch instead of the badass Hector. So with Lost, I was expecting something good for fake Locke/Man in Black/Smoke Monster. Darth Vader goes out to the most badass man in the galaxy in an effort to save his son. Locke/MIB/SM gets SHOT IN THE BACK BY A WHINY PAIN IN THE ASS GIRL. So upsetting. He deserved better. Maybe if it were Hurley or Ben that shot him I would have liked it better. Although, them going straight old school with the rainy cliff face off was awesome. Jack yelling LOCKE!! was gold. Nerd rant over.

Well, all in all a pretty solid weekend after a pretty crappy week. Let's get going on a good week today, shall we?

Monday, May 17, 2010

Weekend Rodeo Roundup

So, let's see how this goes.

Friday

Friday I worked. I'm always busy Fridays, trying to finish up as much of the accumulated work from the week as I can. After work I cleaned my apartment to prep for the arrival of some new tenants. My ex is traveling Europe. The two cats we got when we were together are coming to stay with me. Bonk and Skeletor Dirtbike.
Much cleaning was accomplished. 5 bags of trash and some novelty vacuuming later, I called it.
After that, went up to the bar to revel in the Flyers' miraculous victory.

Saturday

Went out for a typical egg heavy breakfast. Did some shopping and went to the park. The park was great, Phillies on the handheld radio, lemony booze drinks concocted in sippy cups, injury inducing cartwheels, photographs, Willow climbing, it was a good Saturday.

After that the cat delivery went down. My ex brought them by and they were unhappy about the change of scenery. Lots of angry mews and hiding.

Skeletor hid beside the sink, and meowed angrily if you found her. She doesn't like losing hide and seek.

Bonk hid above the washing machine, she likes being high up.

We let them settle in and went out for the most delicious Mexican food I ever had with our already drunk friend. Five dollars were added to the tip for his behavior.

Sunday

Went to lunch with a friend in a surprisingly trashy neighborhood.

Stumbled upon a massive flea market. They were mostly shutting down, but not before I could pull down a stupid haul of trivial crap. I scored some Alf, NKOTB, Street Sharks and Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. Also found some ridiculous baseball suction cup player head things and a comic book about Mike Tyson.

Then, we went to meet my sister's new stray cat kittens. They were kinda creepy and awesome.
A little more hanging out, another Flyer's game, another trip to the bar and I was ready to call it a night.
Bonk is the mischievous sort, and mostly nocturnal. It's tough to make it through the night without her getting into something. But, I'm a heavy sleeper and figure I should be able to ignore most of it. Early this morning, around 5:45 am, I heard a pretty significant commotion at the foot of the couch I was sleeping on. I thought someone was in my apartment. I wake up and turn just in time to see Bonk leaping and scrambling from atop my lamp. It's a paper square, I don't even know how she got that far.

This is the lamp she tried to stand on

Well in my sleepy haze I see this go down and reach out and try to catch her as her horrible footing gave way and she dove toward me. She scratched the hell out of me and the lamp went timber-ing into my bike. Thanks Bonk, good morning to you too.
